Guthrie Govan Discussion

Hi all, I've noticed that Guthrie Govan sometimes has a what looks like a sweatband at the first or second position on his guitar.

What's the purpose of this, is it worth getting one?

At first I thought it maybe similar to a capo, but why?

It's an elasticated hair accessory (a scrunchie?)

Provides extra string dampening for those two-handed tapping sections and such like. He stores it behind the nut when it's not required.
