http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/the-20-greatest-shred-guitarists-of-all-time-461030/1

???????????

No Guthrie, Andy Wood, no Scotty Anderson (and so many others)? And yet Marty Friedman, Zack Wylde ?

Just weird.

I think Guthrie would be quite habby not to be on this list.
After all he is a musican above all. Not just a guitarist.

And I find it hard to immagine he approves of any list of "the best" when we are talking music. Smile

Yes ,i know how guthrie feels about the shred stuff. The cold truth is that he is one of the greatest shredders of our time.Shawn Lane,Holdsworth and many more are great musician but the same applies for them too.Shred was and alwayas be a great aspect of musical playing, only in the guitardom is has a 'bad' sense(mostly because of the other guys named n that list).

Guthrie is still in the early stages of his career as a recording and touring solo artist and as a member of a band in which he will write and contribute his own tunes. Give him several more years and he'll be ranked right up there with all the greats of all time - and not just shred! Wink

Obviously, they can't please everyone with a list like that - personally I don't think they did that bad, it's pretty diverse. I'm happy when I see Holdsworth, McLaughlin and Al Di Meola in there. Would still like to see GG, Garsed, Firkins, Greg Howe, etc., on there instead of Wylde, Loomis, Thordendal and Rusty Cooley, but others will disagree, I guess.

And Friedman IS (or maybe WAS, definitely don't like his new stuff) a killer player.

Well, what are you expecting from a list? Still I was pretty surprised to see Al Di Meola, Alan Holdsworth and Mclaughlin on a list of that kind. Also, rating guitar players acording to their skill is like saying picasso was better the bosch because he would do alternate "strokes" with better technique. Kind of intersting yes, but focusing on the wrong points, IMO.

I don't agree with some who are on the list, but at least Shawn Lane made it!
