My son and I watched the live Govan DVD...Incredible stuff and really cool to hear him play jazz stuff in his inimitable style...Not that this is anywhere close to his league but I've been fooling around trying to get a fusion sound and after hearing his jazz stuff I was inspired by Guthrie and recorded this:

I like that a lot. It doesn't so much go "out" as go "Stravinsky" with some very well defined chromatic themes. A novel and excellent approach.
I'm glad that I can see I'd want to add more Ronny Jordan-like motiffs in there (simpler, earthier ) as a contrast. If it weren't for that I'd have to resign myself to being a jzucker wannabee as it is I'm glad of the inspiration, thanks
I think I need to get the DVD to see Guthrie play without my vision being impaired by half an ounce of golden virginia, a packet of blue rizlas and about 5 Kronenbourg.. I might just be guilty of a massive oversight (if he is in a league far beyond you), it could be you underestimate yourself .. or it could be that viewed from my league (several light years in the direction of elementary guitar) that your league and Guthries are close enough to be the same. (if that makes sense)
Ah well any excuse to pop along to the Bassment on a thursday _________________ Fabulous powers were revealed to me the day I held my magic Suhr(d) aloft and said "by the power of great scale!"

I just ordered the Fellowship DVD & CD at the beginning of this week. Hopefully Ed's got them in the mail already 'cause I'm busting to check 'em out. Can't wait to hear all these apparently wonderful players with my own ears... |
