The main page of the website (as bare as it is) is down. Doing some remodeling, or is this unintentional?

Looks like someone has changed the permissions on the page.
But check out the 404 page: http://www.guthriegovan.co.uk/test.html
Their 404 page seems to know Guthrie plays guitar, that is a true measure of fame

Well it could be the people who own the server farm pressing the wrong button or it could be someone from the Eric Johnson site sabotaging Guthrie's page (mutteriinig 'damn his shredding limey hide' as he executes some root-kit exploit  ) or it could be a change to the site.
I think there should be a flash games on his site that are juvenile and pointless but addictive.

The error page on Guthrie's site has changed domain it seems so it's just a transfer of hosting

Hmm Netstepper seem a more Flash based system dating back to '95 hmmm pre-dotcom Macromedia flash using company.
It could be good, I'll suspend my prejudices till the results are in (and then say I toljaso).. no Evil-Frank Flash isn't cheese... is it?
