A good alternative to expensive BF model Fender amps are there SF cousins. There are a few that the circuits stayed the same throughout the CBS overhall. I think the Deluxe Reverb is one of them.
You can beef up the deluxe with 5881s to with a few resistor changes, they sound great this way!

the Fender 1965 Reissue Deluxe Reverb is a great amp and retails for about what you are willing to spend ($800). Put a little money into better tubes and speaker and it will scream for sure!
Also, the re-issue tubescreamers sound GOOD but they are NOT the same as the original vintage units. That is not to say I wouldn't recommend them, but they don't sound as warm as the old units. What you really want is an MJM Blues Devil. Just ask Troy |

Yep. Thats what I would've said!
Do a search on Music Toyz dot com for the MJM Blues Devil in the forums over there. We've been chatting about it a lot lately. I'm not the only one who feels that its the best of the best as far as 808 pedals go!

Well I was lucky enough to find a 67 BF super reverb for $900 on consignment but i agree with the SF comment. You can find a really nice sounding SF super or twin and either spend an extra couple hundred bucks to have some mods done, or you can tweak it to get a decent sound stock. not bad amps for the price though.
i still suggest not settling for second best, saving up, and getting a higher quality amp like a vibroking or something of that nature. |
