Gadget I'm sure it's been said before but "Your the man" If i didn't know any better I'd think you were Guthrie pulling a "Peter Parker" in that you are "one and the same person"
I guess it goes without saying that it was a good night out, i wish i was there |

Nice rig pic of a recent gig! I think Guthrie's rig is constantly in a state of flux but the basics seem to be fairly constant: the Silver Machine Wah, the Hermida Zendrive, the Menatone JAC Compressor, Analog Man Clone Chorus, T-Rex Replica Delay, Guyatone WR3 Auto-Wah... Haven't seen that Moonphaser before. The Axess BS2 is the line driver that keeps the signal strong and clear through the chain before the amp. He's got quite a collection of overdrive, distortion, fuzz, and boost pedals that I'm sure he puts to use occasionally. I believe Guthrie also got himself the Eventide Time Factor delay pedal recently as well.
For the Asia/GPS gig, Guthrie uses a bare-bones kind of pedalboard with generic kinds of stuff. I remember seeing a Boss DD-5 or DD-7 on it a while back. As you know, for the Young Punx gigs, Guthrie uses his MacBook Pro with the Native Instruments' Guitar Rig 3 program and pedalboard. For NAMM clinics and things like that, he likes to plug direct into the amp with no effects at all. Different gigs require different tools. Guthrie keeps it practical. _________________ Ed Yoon

... and not forgetting the Digitech Whammy, Ernie Ball volume pedal, Power Bank PSU and footswitch for that day's Cornford amp of choice.
This pic was from the Guildford gig earlier this year, but the board hadn't changed for the London Int Music Show. _________________

Read an article about that. I agree now.
Notice that Zendrive parked in the middle of that pedal board.. until a week ago they wherr £120 from the states... now they're £195
Dario Cortese was using one at IGF it sounded pretty awesome.. he sounded pretty awesome but even so... want it. _________________ Fabulous powers were revealed to me the day I held my magic Suhr(d) aloft and said "by the power of great scale!"

What was the conclusion about true bypass in the article? was it the same thing Pete Cornish talks about in this.

Hi guys ...anyone know when guthrie use a compression ???? on a clean or overdrive channel ????
a beautiful pedal that guthrie use sometimes is the barber direct drive...for me ... AMAZING .... the zendrive is beautiful but i prefer the xotic bb preamp also because the zendrive in italy is a relic there are few of them and cost so much ! |

my point was not that true bypass sucks really. it's besides the point, use your ears. my point is that guthrie's tones isn't coming from a cornish or skrydstrup rig. he makes wonders with a bunch of pedals stringed together in a long chain. sure, there's a bs2 and some high quality cables, but nothing anal ...
true bypass is just that, true bypass, and with a lot of TB pedals, you'll add a lot of capacitance and will most surely need a buffer. and if your cables before or after the board or are longish, you'll need a buffer as well, and perhaps a line driver after all the pedals.
but then again, a lot of guys sound great with boss pedals in a chain. some people actually prefers the buffers in many boss pedals before other buffers or going TB.
to be honest, i believe that the only non TB pedal on guthrie's board is the wha rocker.
i have a loooper TB strip, that works well, both in theory and in practice, but it still means more power consumption and more cabling . . . sometimes i just use a boss oc-3 first in the chain and skip the TB strip.
.
